Retention
Registered practitioners must strive to be retained in the KVB register. In order to do this, two conditions must be met:
- An annual retention fee Section 21 (1) must be paid before the due date Section 21 (3) of the VSVP Act, 2011 (31st December of the current year)
- Comply with CPD requirements VSVP Regulations Section 17 must be obtained. (CPD guidelines)
Payment Instructions
- Registered veterinary Surgeons are required to make an annual payment of Kshs. 4,000. If for one reason or another a vet has arrears, he/she must clear the balance before making payment for the current year. For example, if a veterinary surgeon has not made any payment since the year 2018, he/she must pay for the years 2019,2020 and 2021 (A total of 3 years which amounts to Kshs. 12,000).
- Registered veterinary technologists (Degree and Diploma) are required to make an annual payment of Kshs. 2,000. If for one reason or another a technologist has arrears, he/she must clear the balance before making payment for the current year. For example, if one has not made any payment since the year 2018, he/she must pay for the years 2019,2020 and 2021 (A total of 3 years which amounts to Kshs. 6,000)
- Registered veterinary technicians (Certificate) are required to make an annual payment of Kshs. 1,000. If for one reason or another a technologist has arrears, he/she must clear the balance before making payment for the current year. For example, if one has not made any payment since the year 2018, he/she must pay for the years 2019,2020 and 2021 (A total of 3 years which amounts to Kshs. 3,000)
- Foreign veterinary practitioners are required to pay a fee of $ 1,000 after every two years.
CPD Instructions
- Veterinary Surgeons are required to either attain at least 20 CPD points before the end of the current year or obtain a CPD waiver. For more, click here (CPD guidelines).
- Veterinary Paraprofessionals are required to either attain at least 14 CPD points before the end of the current year of obtain a CPD waiver. For more, click here (CPD guidelines).
N/B: The Board may, for valid reasons such as medical reasons or absence from the country waive some or all of the credit points.
Registers
The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) shall open and maintain a separate register each for:
- Veterinary Surgeons, into which shall be entered the names, qualifications, addresses and the date of registration for every person registered as a veterinary surgeon under section 15;
- Each category of veterinary paraprofessionals (Veterinary Technologists Degree, Veterinary Technologists Diploma & Veterinary Technicians), into which shall be entered the names, qualifications, addresses and the date of registration of every person registered as a veterinary para-professional under section 17;
- Temporary registration, into which shall be entered the names, qualifications, addresses and the date of temporary registration of every foreign veterinary surgeon under section 16, the hirer or contractor of every such veterinary surgeon and any condition or restriction to which his registration may be subject;
- Licensed veterinary surgeons and veterinary para-professionals in private practice;
- Approved animal health training institutions;
- Licensed veterinary laboratories;
- Facilities and organizations offering animal health and welfare services;
- Such other particulars as the Board may direct in respect of persons registered under this Act.
